Toxic Overload!
Your body naturally neutralizes or eliminates toxins via two pathways via your liver, kidneys, intestines, skin and lungs with the help from many nutrients and cofactors in the body.
TOXIC OVERLOAD occurs when your body can no longer keep up with the amount of toxins ingested (exogenous) and created (endogenous) via this process . It can be a combination of toxins exceeding our detox capabilities by means of too many toxins or due to breakdowns within either pathway - lack of essential nutrients/poor methylation/stress/inflammation/etc.
A healthy liver metabolizes fats and toxins easily, resulting in a high-functioning metabolism that burns calories efficiently creating lots of energy for you! When toxins start to clog it up, we are unable to break down fats and harmful substances. As a result our bodies create more fat to store the toxins.
Toxins can also increase inflammatory mediators. These mediators then affect insulin resistance, leptin resistance (leptin inhibits appetite) and appetite. Toxins can affect mitochondrial (mitochondria are the little bacteria in our bodies responsible for creating ENERGY!) function by damaging certain enzymes that affect fatty acid oxidation and thermogenesis...all reducing your ability to burn fat.
Common Signs of a Toxic Body:
Skin problems (acne, rashes,etc)
Digestion problems
Frequent colds, illnesses
Headaches
Lethargy
Chronic sinusitis
General aches and pains
Joint stiffness
Brain fog
Inability to lose weight
Always tired
Compromised immune function
Food and scent intolerances
If you can relate to these symptoms a detox protocol (different than a cleanse!) may benefit you!
